Hi Dravid or bye Dravid?

Runs have stopped flowing from Rahul Dravid's bat. The batsman, who was once the veritable wall that rival bowlers struggled to breach, looks increasingly troubled by his own poor form and rather out of sorts in a team that has shown an exemplary thirst for success.

"In the present scenario, even if a player like Dravid loses his place, it's very difficult to get back in the squad. India have got a strong back up now and one cannot afford to rest on past laurels. I hope he realises that if he does not get runs in Mohali, he may never play for India again," said former Pak captain Akram.

Whereas “One should not judge Dravid by a few failures. His loss of form is temporary and I am sure he will come up with a big knock to silence his critics,” Ganguly told reporters after a practice session at the Eden Gardens here on Saturday. “Dravid is a great cricketer. It will be wrong to say that it is over for him,” he added.

So, what do you think? Should dravid retire?

  1. No India ofcourse now going with success because of luck& Effort of seniors, but abroad we didn't played under dhoni cap he needs seniors like dravid to play next series in newzealand so he should play for India upto 2010

  2. I don't think we should put any pressure on him just becz he lost the form from few innings, if we look in to the history many great players have under gone this situation in their career and have come back with good knocks...i am sure rahul will answer for all these from his bat..which has happend today and will continue..

  3. Dravid is a fentastic player who had been the key contributor in saving India from many critical games, this is a short slump for him oviing to the current ill treatment to the seniors,He will definetly show what his actual calliber is, I feel there is no other player in our Indian cricket history who is the lone match saver, so he deserves much more respect and position in our team.

  4. Rahul is a class batsman, even now his technic
is one of the best.Bad patches can be there in
any one's life,I am sure Rahul is mature enough to come out of this with the help of his team members and the support staff. He is going to play well at least for another two
    years.

  6. Yes, it is time for Dravid to retire. He was a very good player and was considered a formidable "wall"- not any more. India still can win matches without Dravid or for that matter Sachin.Runs are not flowing any more. There are so many good new young budding crickets.Let some of them take the "old timers"and give chances to new comers. How long Sachin and Dravid would want to cling on. Gunguly did a wise decision to retire and so is Anil Kumbley; they did have a wise hearts.

  7. No way he should retire...It will be hard to replace him at number three..He is still the wall and he proved it in the second test match..We have seen India getting all out cheaply when shewag doesnt fire..

  8. No, not at all..its just matter of one match to hit back...and considering the number of times he stood tall against the best teams in the world, he has a plenty of cricket left in him. India had never been good outside the sub-continent in any form of the game until these big 5 have given us hope. So, who are we to decide up on fate of these people...these players know exactly than anyone(esp. media) else when they would like to retire..
Everyone goes thru bad patches...and we(the media) should atleast now stopping putting the pressure on him. Kepping in the mind the number of years he contributed to the Indian cricket, this is not the way a player of his caliber is to be treated.
I honestly and sincerely request media to stop all these rubbish polls or rubbish talks/articles about his retirement and stop putting extra pressure on him...
We all still support him, encourage him...there is no other thought...

  10. Well he is already back and as always in his own dependable style. he has been more to the team than any other player he has been a wicket keeper a batsman a good fielder a good captan has bated on any number n scored 2nd fastest fifty and huge tones in tests n no to mention his one day record. So if he is supposed to be thrown out then so should be all the other players

  14. NO..........................!!
Dravid is one of the technically correct INTERNATIONAL(NOT desi) Cricketer. He's highly professional and committed team player. TEAM INDIA cannot afford to loose him soon.
MEDIA please.. please. stop targetting senior player. Please develop professionalism in reviewing players and don't commercialize sports person'c carrier just for the sake of commercial competations.

  15. Eat your own words. A caliber batsman like Dravid, Sachin and Laxman should be left alone. These class batsman will prove it over and over to their fans and country. Every batsman including the greatest will go through a lean patch. Yes it is the greed from media and ex-players and commentators putting a spin to an existing problem. They know it when to call a day. Instead of axing class players, my personal suggestion is to groom youngsters by rotating with seniors and this has to be done at home. With the amount of cricket played today, seniors and youngster rotation can easily be achieved. It is a shame we do not see this, because it is always win-win-win in their minds rather than having a long term 20/20 vision.
Bottom line - Dravid is a class Test batsman in my book and stats will prove.

  18. Its time for Dravid to leave, world cricket has changed and actually it has been good time since it has changed. There is no place for players like Dravid in any format of the game. The quality he possess which is not to score however bad the ball is and to dump the ball into the ground, is no more required even in test cricket. I agree he has played a key part in some victories of India, but the way he plays pleases only the opponents. Why he himself does not give his position to a youngster who can serve India better? I mean of what kind of stuff these guys are made of, even a normal person like us have this much of self respect that when everybody, including your statistics, is pointing fingers at you and you are not able to perform then there is no better option than to step down rather than stick in the team being in the dreams of past glory and performances.

I would say BYE BYE Dravid. Search for another job, we all do that in bad times.

  19. No ways at all!! Batsman like Dravid should be there in the team at least till 2010 end.Class batsman like him should be must while touring countries like New Zealand.Dravid is such a hard worker who will never give up that easily. Dravid as a cricketer is a great learner of the mistakes. His suggestions will be very helpful to the team(Young guns) as he is technically strong player. There will not be any crack in "THE WALL"

  20. It is not understandable as to what is stopping Dhoni from dropping Dravid from the playing eleven. Everybody should know that Dravid is not making runs there in the middle order which put pressure on the next coming batsman. Young batsman are sitting in the dressing rooms for an opportunity, and I hope that the board as well as DRavid will also realise that it is the better time to say "Bye Bye" to the international cricket. If he has guts to prove his metal, he should also be asked to prove himself first in the domestic cricket, like Ganguly, the most successful captain of the Indian Team. Therre should not be double standard in the game. Ganguly was dropped from the playing eleven, when he was not performing. Thereafter he performed well in the domestic cricket, and was again given an opportunity to be part of the playing 11. In the case of Mr. Dravid he is not being given such treatment for the reasons best known to the Board and Team Management. But it is too much know.

  21. no..he shudnt retire at all...he is the wall of india..unfortunately he is not in form at this time bt i m sure that soon he will show what his actual caliber is.....

  22. He is such a classic player, and he didn't earn the name WALL in overnight, as most of you guys said this is just slight slowdown for him, so lets give him time for him to come back.
Hey Dravid buddy come on mate, we'll be with you, and we don't want to miss ye..

  23. Not at all, at present no body is there in the team to replace his place.up & downs are quite natural in one's carrier.Rahul has the capacity to reply against all these stupid comments.still now he is the "wall" of indian cricket.

  24. no,he should not retire as record shows,he is well enough to play in foreign countries so ahead of new zealand tour he must be in team and no one he is well enough to replace him in one down batsman.. now he came back with blistering century against england in moholi.. so he is definitely is back in his form.. so wait n see the WALL

  25. never,we can,t simple throw lot of budens on such a class player who has proved how much he can deliver when the team really needs some one in the middle.

simply he is going through a bad patch and ofcouse he proved his determination in 1st innings at mohali.

so,in my opinion we must respect such a wonderful class and back him in all his bad days.He should be their in the team.

  26. Dravid is one of the best player that India has produced.
He has been a integral part of the successes in Test cricket.
We should start respecting our seniors a bi more than what is the scenario now.
There always have to be a perfect balance of seniors and juniors in the team.
The present team seems capable of carrying forward the legacy of Indian Test cricket.
Dravid ia a important figure in the team and he should be given respect for how he toiled to get out of the miserable form in Mohali with a good century.
He should play till he decides to step down himself.

DRAVID is one of the great player in cricket histry.India should proud to produce such a player.let him give one more chance

  28. Dravid has been an outstanding batsmen for ages and has domintated the World Cricket through out his illustrous career. No one can argue how good a batsman he is. But currently he is going through a bad patch and is also a week-link in an all out aggresive and dominating team that Team-India has become with Dhoni as a leader.

But we still nead Dravid specially when playing overseas, but if he comes at number two and looses the wicket quickly he puts the preasure on the team and the team can loose momentum built by Sehwag and company.

In my regards, he should bat lower down in the order and Laxman should be promoted up to Number two spot
